The Gainesville Midland Railroad was a short line from Gainesville to
Athens in Northeast Georgia, with a branch to Winder. Connections
were with Southern at Gainesville, and Seaboard Air Line at Athens and
Winder. The Winder branch
(junction at Belmont, Georgia) is gone, and the main line is now the
Gainesville
Midland subdivision, Atlanta division of CSX.
The sign is at Fowler Junction, where the GM connects to the Seaboard Air Line.
